FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to analytical chemistry and can be used for detecting trace amounts of bismuth (III) in solutions. This is achieved due to that, in a medium of acetate buffer at pH 4.5 to 4.8, a redox reaction is carried out, in which the oxidising agent used is 12-molybdophosphoric acid, and the reducing agent is suspended zinc sulphide. Content of bismuth (III) is determined from change in optical density of the analysed solution, measured in a fixed time interval. The invention allows for detecting bismuth (III) where its content varies from 0.05 to 0.5 mcg/ml of the initial solution with mean error of approximately 15%.
EFFECT: increased sensitivity of detecting bismuth in solutions.
