FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: described is a method of producing polycarbonates through phosgenation of a suspension of a crystallohydrate of a salt of an alkali metal of an aromatic dihydroxy compound in an organic solvent, in the presence of a catalyst and optionally in the presence of a chain length regulator, using a phosgenation reagent in form of phosgene, diphosgene, triphosgene or their mixture. The obtained suspension undergoes polycondensation in the presence of an aqueous solution of an inorganic base - hydroxide, carbonate or hydrocarbonate of an alkali metal, optionally in the presence of a catalyst, chain length regulator, and an emulsifier.
EFFECT: reduced degree of hydrolysis of the phosgenation reagent, adhesion of by-product - alkali metal chloride to the walls of equipment and obtaining an end product with given molecular weight.
