SUBSTANCE: invention relates to apparatus of an update distribution system. The method involves sending software update metadata, which contain a software update metadata file which uniquely identifies updates, general property tags which carry general property information relating to the update, localised property tags which carry localised property information organised according to language, relationship tags which identify dependency relationships the current software update, as described in the update metadata, has with other updates, applicability rules tags which carry information for determining applicability of the software update to a client computer, update payload file tags and data tags which depend on the handler.
EFFECT: control of distribution of software updates.
