SUBSTANCE: invention relates to substances which can suppress bacterial activity, and can be used for preventing growth of sulphate reducing bacteria in different process media, particularly in the oil industry. The agent for suppressing growth of sulphate reducing bacterial contains the following, in wt %: formaldehyde 20-30; 70% aqueous solution of products of dissolving collagen, for which wastes from the leather industry are used - leather cuttings, 70-80. Formaldehyde is used in paraform.

EFFECT: simple synthesis, high selectivity, cheap and available raw material for making the said agent, good solubility in water and weakly soluble in oil, exhibition of corrosion inhibiting properties, non-toxicity, explosion- and fire safety.
