FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention is meant for desalinating sea water and obtaining natural gas at the same time. The desalination installation has a floating housing fitted with apparatus for thermal insulation and/or heating its inside, as well as apparatus for its vertical and horizontal movement in the water column. The floating housing is fitted with a pressure-sealed door made with possibility of underwater reception of natural gas together with water with simultaneous formation of a gas hydrate. The top part of the housing is fitted with a gas outlet pipe, and there is a water outlet pipe at its bottom. The floating housing can be towed with a ship-towing vehicle. When loading, the gas hydrate is decomposed to fresh water and natural gas.
EFFECT: reduced energy consumption of the desalination process, as well as simplification of water desalination equipment.
