FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention is meant for desalinating sea water and obtaining natural gas at the same time. A floating housing is towed to the point where natural gas comes out of the sea bed and immersed to a depth at which pressure corresponds to conditions for formation of natural gas hydrate. Natural gas is fed into the floating housing with formation of a gas hydrate. The floating housing is then taken to the unloading point. Temperature and pressure which prevent gas hydrate dissociation are maintained in the floating chamber. When unloading, the gas hydrate is decomposed to fresh water and natural gas.
EFFECT: reduced energy consumption of the desalination process.
