FIELD: physics; image processing.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to digital image processing and specifically to methods for adaptive increase of sharpness of photographic prints. The method for adaptive increase of sharpness of digital photographs during printing involves changing the size of an image in accordance with the size of the photographic print and resolution of the printing device. Degree of sharpness of the digital photograph is evaluated. The length of transition on brightness jumps in the image brightness channel is reduced using parametres which depend on degree of sharpness. Local contrast in the image brightness channel is increased using parametres which depend on degree of sharpness and colour channels of the image are modified in order to prevent colour-hue and saturation error due to change of brightness on two previous stages.
EFFECT: higher degree of adaptability.
