SUBSTANCE: language extensions are provided, which can facilitate development of programs which can be run in one address space distributed over several processes on a single computer, and distributed over a local or wide area network without repeated coding. The concept of a service which can execute its own algorithmic (logical) stream is central to this aspect. Services do not share memory and are not synchronised using explicit synchronisation primitive elements. More precisely, data sharing and synchronisation are carried out by sending messages, e.g. several declared messages are explicitly transmitted between services. The messages can contain shared data, and the message exchange template provides the necessary synchronisation.
EFFECT: addition of support of simultaneous joint execution to an object-oriented language used extensively.
