FIELD: physics, communications.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to optical communication engineering. The system comprises a transmitter which has a modulated light source, and a receiver which has a photodetector for receiving light emitted by the transmitter and converting the said light to an electrical signal. The transmitter and the receiver are directed onto a least one common surface which reflects light emitted by the transmitter before the said light falls on the receiver. The system for communication in free space has a cellular structure and has several cells, each at least having one transmitter and at least one associated receiver. The cells are arranged so as to prevent cross-talk interference for neighbouring cells with provision for independency of the cells from each other.

EFFECT: provision for indirect optical broadband high-speed transmission of data in transportation vehicles, primarily in aeroplanes.
