FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: laser source of multicharged ions consists of a target, a laser, a passage channel made in form of a metal pipe whose central longitudinal axis coincides with the initial direction of hydrodynamic movement of the stream of laser plasma from the target, and an ion selection system. Inside the passage channel, between the region of the target irradiated by the laser and points where the laser plasma begins to touch side walls of the passage channel there is a metal shield which prevents expansion of the laser plasma, where the said shield is electrically connected to an electrical voltage source.
EFFECT: increased charge state of ions in the laser plasma, increased current in the beam of multicharged ions at the output of the laser source.
