FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the technology of preparing catalysts used in processes for dehydrogenating ethylebenzene to styrene. Described is a method of preparing a catalyst for dehydrogenating ethylebenzene to styrene based on a mixture of metal oxides, obtained via precipitation of inorganic components from vermiculite ore acid etching solutions with alkali solutions with subsequent heat treatment of the obtained residue at temperature which facilitates obtaining of complex metal oxides of the (Fex1AL1-x1)2O3 and Mg1-x2Fex2O type, where x1=x2=0.3-0.4. The solutions for acid etching vermiculite ore and alkali are taken in amounts which provide mass ratio of magnesium, iron and aluminium in the ready catalyst of 12:7:8.
EFFECT: catalyst with high activity and selectivity is obtained from cheap material with possibility of recycling large amounts of liquid wastes from vermiculite acid etching.
