FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to obtaining titanium-containing products which can be used as tanning agents in the leather industry, in making paint materials, construction materials and plastic. In the proposed method, sphene concentrate which contains 5-20 wt % nepheline as an aluminium-containing component is decomposed with 40-50% sulphuric acid in boiling conditions with transfer of titanium and aluminium into the solution. Calcium silicate precipitate is filtered off. A titanium-aluminium tanning agent is salted out from the obtained solution using ammonium sulphate at mass ratio (TiO2+Al2O3):(NH4)2SO4=1:(3.5-4.5). The calcium silicate precipitate is hydrolysed to obtain a calcium silicate pigment composition.
EFFECT: invention increases degree of extracting titanium into the solution to 98%, improves quality of the titanium-aluminium tanning agent due to higher degree of its uptake by leather of up to 97,5% during tanning, increases output of titanium-aluminium tanning agent, and also improves paint-technical characteristics of the calcium silicate pigment composition and reduces consumption of sulphuric acid.
