FIELD: physics.

SUBSTANCE: fingerprint identification and gas-analytical detection of trace amounts of substances on fingerprints is carried out. One finger is pressed onto a contact surface and trace amounts of substances are transferred from the finger to the contact surface. The fingerprint is read and compared with specimens from a fingerprint database. The contact surface containing trace amounts of semi-volatile substances is moved to the input of the gas analyser. The contact surface is then heated and an air sample containing substances evaporated from the contact surface is fed into the gas analyser. When the moving contact surface is pressed, it moves in way which facilitates access of the finger to the surface of a fingerprint reader. The finger is then fixed on the surface of the reader. Collection of air samples containing highly volatile and volatile substances takes place simultaneously with fingerprint reading.

EFFECT: possibility of detecting trace amounts of high volatile and volatile substances, increased reliability of fingerprint identification.
