FIELD: engines and pumps.

SUBSTANCE: proposed invention can be used for development of low-thrust jet engines (LTJE). Low-thrust engine comprises combustion chamber with nozzle, mixing head with channels to feed components and tangential channels to feed fuel mix into combustion chamber with swirling space and device to ignite fuel mix. In compliance with this invention, fuel mix igniting device is represented by laser radiation source with intake and focusing assembly tightly fitted directly on mixing head. Note here that laser beam is directed into axial channel, i.e. zone of initial ignition of components, into the point of focusing onto axial channel surface, or in combustible mix volume. Proposed method of starting aforesaid engine comprises feeding fuel and oxidiser in components mixing zone and igniting produced fuel mix. Note here that entire consumed volumes of oxidiser and fuel are fed simultaneously into components mixing zone. Produced mix is swirled and fed simultaneously into main combustion zone and initial ignition zone, i.e. into axial channel wherein said mix is ignited by focusing laser radiation in optical puncture zone on axial channel surface or in fuel mix volume.

EFFECT: higher reliability, reduced sizes and weight, simplified design and starting.
