FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to an aqueous dispersion of an associative thickener used to regulate rheological properties when applying various aqueous systems. The aqueous polymer dispersion contains a hydrophobically modified poly(acetal- or ketal-polyether) (HM-PAE), water, and a viscosity reduction agent selected from a group which includes ethoxylated alcohol containing a C9-C12-hydrocarbon fragment, ethoxylated acetylenediol, phosphate ether, a combination of ethoxylated alcohol and anionic dialkylsulfosuccinate and a combination of ethoxylated alcohol and anionic phosphate ether.
EFFECT: invention enables to obtain a thickener which easily bonds with water-based coating compositions, including those which contain latex and enables reduction of the viscosity of a 20% HM-PAE mixture to 1000-6000 cP.
