FIELD: electricity.
SUBSTANCE: overvoltage protection device for electrical equipment consists of several multi-purpose protection modules each having removable and non-removable units. Besides removable unit is inserted into the non-removable unit. The removable unit contains fuses and semi-conductor voltage restrictor connected sequentially, while non-removable unit includes alarms to inform about protection module damage and a necessity of replacement. Depending on protected equipment connection diagram to protection device in case of its failure, two options of device design may be implemented, such as: disconnection of protected equipment from power supply mains and generation of information on the necessity to replace removable unit; generation of information on the necessity to replace removable unit without disconnection of protected electrical equipment from the mains.
EFFECT: improved reliability and durability due to complete use of semi-conductor voltage restrictor protection characteristics and application of unified protection modules with effective monitoring diagram of device operation.
