FIELD: process engineering.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to production of ammunition. Hollow cup- or tube-like billet is successively reduced. Grids of spiral grooves are made on the billet inner surface. Billet is pre-arranged on the mandrel with spiral ledges made in opposite directions. Hollow billet made from structural steel is used, steel carbon content making up to 0.4 %. Billet reduction is performed using liquid or solid lubricant. Billet OD exceeds bend diametre by allowance. Reduction is performed with strain that provides for hardness not over 250 HV. Groove depth makes 0.215-0.249 of the hollow billet wall thickness. Billet is removed from the mandrel. Now, the billet is machined to produce the band.
EFFECT: longer life of tool, better fragmentation of shell.
