FIELD: process engineering.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to purification of effluents of heavy metal ions by galvanic coagulation. Proposed method comprises forcing water with air dispersion through charge made up of mix of iron chips and granulated carbon-containing material. Carbon mineral sorbent based on ores of cryptocrystalline graphite is used as carbon-containing material. Water purification is facilitated by applying asymmetric variable current. Galvanic coagulator comprises cylindrical metal housing with top and bottom dielectric covers to accommodate the mix of iron chips and carbon mineral sorbent based on ores of cryptocrystalline graphite. Note here that said housing comprises drain disk, water feed and discharge branch pipes arranged above and below loading point, dispersing web arranged under water feed branch pipe, air feed branch pipe arranged above dispersing web, central anode accommodated in charge and secured to top cover, and system of anodes made from steel rods not isolated from the charge and located around central anode. Housing that doubles as cathode is isolated from inside and outside. Note here that inner isolation is made from perforated dielectric material.

EFFECT: higher efficiency and stability of purification.
