FIELD: information technology.

SUBSTANCE: evaluation of three-dimensional topology of roads and paths on which pedestrians are moving is achieved by observing the pedestrians and estimating parametres of the road based on the size and position of a pedestrian in a sequence of video frames. The system includes a unit for detecting objects in the foreground for analysing video frames of the three-dimensional scene and detecting objects and position of objects in the video frames, a unit for predicting the scale of the objects for estimating three-dimensional transformation parametres for objects and predicting the height of objects, at least partly based on the parametres and a unit for detecting the road map to estimate borders of the road in the three-dimensional scene using positions of objects to form a road map.

EFFECT: predicting the scale of an object and detecting the road map to obtain accurate and reliable results for three-dimensional topology of roads in a scene captured by a single camera.
