FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to method of applying wear resistant coats on cutting tools and can be used machine building. Vacuum plasma method is used to apply two-layer coat on cutting tool working surface. Titanium and molybdenum nitride or titanium and niobium nitride are applied as lower layer in installation chamber at nitrogen pressure of 7.5·10-4 Pa and 600°C. The same nitride, chromium-doped, is applied as upper layer at nitrogen pressure of 4.3·10-3 Pa and 500°C.
EFFECT: higher serviceability and quality of processing.
