FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: procedure consists in vacuum-plasma application of two-layer coating on working surfaces of cutting tool. As a lower layer there is applied titanium and molybdenum nitride or titanium and chromium nitride, or titanium and aluminium nitride, or titanium and niobium nitride, or titanium and zirconium nitride at pressure of nitrogen 7.5·10-4 Pa and temperature 600°C in a chamber of the installation. As an upper layer there is applied the said nitride alloyed with iron at pressure of nitrogen 4.3·10-3 Pa and temperature 500°C in a chamber of the installation.
EFFECT: raised operability of cutting tool and upgraded quality of processing.
