FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to method of applying wear resistant coats on cutting tools and can be used machine building. Vacuum plasma method is used to apply two-layer coat on cutting tool working surface. Titanium and molybdenum nitride, or titanium and chromium nitride, or titanium and silicon nitride, or titanium and iron nitride, or titanium and zirconium nitride are applied as lower layer in installation chamber at nitrogen pressure of 7.5·10-4 Pa and 600°C. The same nitride, niobium-doped, is applied as upper layer at nitrogen pressure of 4.3·10-3 Pa and 500°C.
EFFECT: higher workability of cutting tools.
