FIELD: mining.

SUBSTANCE: method to determine geometry of crack in underground formations provides for the following: propping agent or working fluid are placed in crack of formation, which contain radiation-sensitive material, containing powder, including vanadium, having particles with size of approximately 1-15 mcm, specified material is non-radioactive until it is exposed to bombardment with neutrons during single logging stage; material is radiated with neutrons after its placement into formation crack; gamma radiation it releases is measured, to produce peak radiation, which it radiates; background radiation is measured during single logging stage, then background radiation is subtracted from specified radiation of peak energy; and crack height in formation is determined by difference between background radiation and radiation of peak energy. Propping agent, including base and coating, where base or coating contain above specified material. Working fluid containing above-specified propping agent.

EFFECT: improved efficiency and environmental safety.
