FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to agents for protecting engineering materials from attack and destruction by insects. The agent for protecting engineering materials from attack and/or destruction by insects is a mixture which contains a compound of formula 
(I) or its metal salt or acid addition compound, a boron compound and/or a quaternary ammonium compound and at least one solvent, as well as, if needed, at least one auxiliary processing agent such as an emulsifying agent, a wetting agent, a binding agent, a fixing agent, a water repellent, a drying agent, a UV stabiliser, a dye, a pigment and a plasticiser. Described also is engineering material such as wood or plastic which is treated with the mixture containing a compound of formula (I) 
or its metal salt or acid addition compound, a boron compound and/or a quaternary ammonium compound and a method of protecting engineering materials.
EFFECT: treated engineering material such as wood or plastic can not be attacked or destroyed by insects.
