FIELD: machine building.
SUBSTANCE: two-layer coating is applied on working surfaces of cutting tool by vacuum-plasma procedure. As a lower layer there is applied titanium and molybdenum carbonitride or titanium and chromium carbonitride, or silicon and titanium carbonitride, of titanium and aluminium carbonitride, or titanium and niobium carbonitride, or titanium and zirconium carbonitride. As an upper layer there is applied titanium and molybdenum nitride or titanium and chromium nitride, or silicon and titanium nitride, of titanium and aluminium nitride, or titanium and niobium nitride, or titanium and zirconium nitride alloyed with iron.
EFFECT: increased functionality of cutting tool and upgraded quality of processing.
