SUBSTANCE: method involves steps for: creating (205) a look-up table of PRNG seeds, and initialising (210) one of the PRNG seeds from the look-up table for a current picture, for which there is need to imitate motion picture film grains by accessing the look-up table using a value corresponding to an order of the picture. The order of the picture is one of the given order of displaying the picture and the given order for decoding the picture.
EFFECT: providing bit-accurate seed initialisation for a pseudo-random number generator used to imitate grains of a motion picture film in a video system.
