FIELD: chemistry.

SUBSTANCE: described is a hydrogen sulphide neutraliser, which includes a product of reacting formaldehyde, where the said product is hemiformal(s) of general formula R-O-(CH₂O)_nH, where R is an alkyl with 1-6 carbon atoms, preferably methyl, ethyl, n=1-4, and additionally contains an organic base and a formaldehyde-containing product, with component in the following ratio in wt %: organic base 0.5-20; formaldehyde-containing product 0.5-70, hemiformal(s) - the rest. Described also is a method of purifying oil, gas condensate, water-oil emulsions, petroleum products and process fluids from hydrogen sulphide by treating starting material with a chemical reagent which is the neutraliser described above.

EFFECT: high efficiency of the neutraliser, having high manufacturability, low setting point and water content, is stable during storage and is reactive, and provides high degree of purity of hydrocarbon media from hydrogen sulphide and light mercaptants.
