FIELD: chemistry.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of producing asymmetric photochromic dithienyl-substituted cyclopentenes of general formula I: , where R denotes chlorine or alkyl C1-C4, R1 denotes hydrogen, halogen or alkyl C1-C4, R2 and R3 denote alkyl C1-C4, involving acidification of corresponding thiophen derivatives of general formula II: , where R and R2 are as described above, R=hydrogen or R2+R4=-CH=CH-CR1=CH-, where R1 is as described above, with glutaric anhydride in the presence of aluminium (III) chloride in an inert organic solvent medium.The corresponding acid obtained is converted to an acid chloride under the effect of oxalyl chloride and dimethyl formamide, followed by acidification of the obtained acid chloride with the corresponding thiophene derivative of general formula II, where R, R1, R2 and R4 are as described above, in the presence of a Lewis acid and asymmetric 1,5-diketones formed undergo intramolecular cyclisation on low-valence titanium particles while boiling in the medium of an inert organic solvent in the presence of pyridine.

EFFECT: method of producing novel photochromic compounds which can be used as optical switches in high-capacity data media used to record, process and store data.
