FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: multi-layer coating is applied by vacuum-plasma method. First, a lower layer out of nitride or carbonitride of compound of titanium and silicon is applied at their ratio, wt %: titanium 99.05-99.37, silicon 0.63-0.95. Further, there is applied an intermediate layer out of nitride or carbonitride of compound of titanium, silicon and niobium at their ratio, wt %: titanium 89.5-93.74, silicon 0.26-0.50, niobium 6.0-10.0 and there is applied an upper layer consisting of nitride or carbonitride of compound of titanium, silicon and niobium at their ratio, wt %: titanium 88.6-93.0, silicon 1.0-1.4, niobium 6.0-10.0. Three cathodes arranged horizontally in one plane apply the layers. The first and the second cathodes of which there is made alloy of titanium and silicon are set opposite to each other, while the third one is made complex of titanium and niobium and is installed between them. Also, the lower layer is applied with the first and the second cathodes, the intermediate layer is applied with the first and third cathode, while the upper layer - with the second and third cathode.
EFFECT: increased operability of cutting tool.
