FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: vacuum plasma application of multi-layer coating is performed. Lower layer of nitride or carbonitride of titanium, silicone and niobium compound is applied at the following component ratio, wt %: titanium 89.5-93.74, silicone 0.26-0.50, niobium 6.0-10.0. After that, intermediate layer of nitride or carbonitride of titanium, silicone and niobium compound is applied at the following component ratio, wt %: titanium 88.6-93.0, silicone 1.0-1.4, niobium 6.0-10.0, and upper layer is applied, which consists of nitride or carbonitride of titanium and silicone compound at the following component ratio, wt %: titanium 99.05-99.37, silicone 0.63-0.95. Application of coating layers is performed with three cathodes horizontally located in one plane; the first and the second of the above cathodes are made from titanium and silicone alloy and located opposite each other, and the third cathode is made from titanium and niobium and located between them; at that, lower layer is applied using the first and the third cathodes; intermediate layer is applied using the second and the third cathodes, and upper layer is applied using the first and the second cathodes.
EFFECT: improving operability of cutting tool.
