FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: method involves monitoring pitting corrosion on inner walls of storages of liquid radioactive wastes of atomic power stations, vessels and apparatus for chemical and petrochemical industry. A witness sample made from material of the wall of the storage, vessel or apparatus is put into the storage, vessel or apparatus, and potential of +30 - +80 mV, which is more positive than the said wall, is applied across the said sample using a polarising device, and if there is a current jump on the witness sample, which is detected using a current detector, measures are taken to remove pitting corrosion.
EFFECT: timely detection of pitting corrosion on walls of storages of liquid radioactive wastes of atomic power stations, vessels and apparatus of the chemical and petrochemical industry and lower service life thereof.
