SUBSTANCE: flash component querying system having a processor and comprising: a processor-executed flash driver which contains data associated with the flash component; and a file system which receives data from the flash driver, said data containing characteristics of a plurality of discrete regions of the flash component. These characteristics include performance information for one or more discrete regions of the plurality of discrete regions. The performance information indicates a performance level of the one or more discrete regions. The file system uses said data to optimise the file system layout and use of the flash component at least in part by utilising one or more discrete regions associated with a high performance level for frequently accessed information.
EFFECT: optimising a file system for more efficient use of flash components, increasing longevity of components and higher reading-recording efficiency.
