SUBSTANCE: shock absorber, in particular, for washing machines, comprising a tubular jacket (12), a piston (14) installed in it with the possibility of axial sliding and at least one braking element (18) installed on the piston's stem (17) and made of elastically antifriction material and permanently contacting with the inner surface of a tubular jacket (12). The jacket (12) has an open end, through which the piston (14) is inserted in it, and a closed end differing in the fact that the tubular jacket (12) comprises at least one section (22), which has increased or decreased cross section compared to the cross section of the remaining part of the jacket and is arranged between two ends of the tubular jacket (12), besides, when the braking element (18) is arranged in the section (22) of the tubular jacket (12), the elastic antifriction material of the braking element (18) is capable of radial compression by the inner surface of the tubular jacket (12), at the same time the specified compression differs from compression that occurs when the braking element (18) is located near one of two ends of the tubular jacket (12).

EFFECT: shock absorber makes it possible to do different braking depending on conditions of washing machine operation.
