FIELD: physics.

SUBSTANCE: method involves finding the quotient from dividing the number of fish caught by the trawl by the number of fish in front of the trawl, determined using an echo sounder on a trawl board. An additional hydroacoustic echo sounding device is mounted the trawl warps opposite each other outside the zone of effect of the trawl boards on the fish. The additional hydrocoustic echo sounding device facilitates hydroacoustic location of fishing objects in front of the trawl. Hydroacoustic location from the trawl board enables to determine the position of the boundaries of zones within which the number of fish in front of the trawl is estimated.

EFFECT: method enables more accurate determination of catching efficiency of trawls.
