FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to chemistry and can be used in production of hydrogen. Hydrogen is obtained using a composition containing a solid metal hydride or a liquid reagent containing water and acid, and having pH lower than approximately 1.5. According to the first version, the gas-generating device has a housing, a solid metal hydride and a liquid reagent containing water. The solid metal hydride and the liquid reagent are in the housing. The weight ratio of the metal hydride to the liquid reagent is less than approximately 1:10.0. According to the second version, the metal hydride and the liquid reagent in the housing are separated by a decomposable membrane. The metal hydride and the liquid reagent react to form hydrogen gas. According to the third version, the gas-generating device has several fuel capsules, each containing a metal hydride and a liquid reagent separated by a membrane.
EFFECT: invention increases the amount of hydrogen formed during reaction between the metal hydride and the liquid reagent and reduces the volume of the hydrogen-generating cartridge.
