FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: steel material with Mg-based alloy coating is obtained by hot dipping and contains Zn of 15 atomic % to less than 45 atomic %; at that, coating layers can also contain one or several elements chosen from group A: Si, Ti, Cr, Cu, Fe, Ni, Zr, Nb, Mo and Ag, amounting to 0.03 - 5 atomic %. Coating layer of Mg-based alloy, which is obtained by hot dipping, can also contain Zn of 15 atomic % or more, Mg of more than 35 atomic %, and one or several elements chosen from group B: Al, Ca, Y and La amounting to 0.03 - 15 atomic %. Also, coating layer of Mg-based alloy can contain amorphous phase in quantity of 5 vol. %.
EFFECT: steel material with coating of Mg-based alloy complying with this invention has particular adhesion and high corrosion resistance.
