FIELD: electrical engineering.

SUBSTANCE: device ground potential comprises local and central modules for every phase of each protected section. Local module incorporates polarised light source fitted on one side of optical path, current differential protection unit and arc protection unit fitted on the opposite side of optical path, and command and lock signal generator. Input of the latter is connected to outputs of current differential protection unit and arc protection unit. Central module inputs are connected to local module outputs in all sections of deadband in exposed switchgear units, while its outputs are connected to disabling circuits of appropriate switches, interlocking of appropriate fast-response protection of appropriate adjacent components and starting of switch fault redundancy device. High- or superhigh-voltage potential is furnished with two Faraday elements connected at the beginning and end of protected section to allow turning of light unlike-sign polarisation planes in optical path, at one-way current.
