FIELD: metallurgy.

SUBSTANCE: method involves circulation of protective gas via heat exchange cycle in in-series installed jet cooling units, including circulation of protective gas for sealing of outlet gas gate valve of furnace. In the first jet cooling unit (in strip movement direction) with circulation of protective gas to the surface of treated strip there supplied from above and from below, at an angle to its movement plane, are flat protective gas jets which are directed towards furnace exit; at that, protective gas pressure in jet cooling chamber between circulating protective gas in the first jet cooling unit and circulating protective gas in gaseous gate valve is 2-5 of gas pressure in the rest furnace volume.

EFFECT: improving quality of treated metal and reducing protective gas flow rate through the whole volume of furnace owing to excluding air leaks.
