FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: plasma flux is accelerated by a pulsed plasma accelerator having a cathode (1) and an anode (2), between which there is separating frontal insulator (3) and dielectric blocks (5) made from ablating material. During operation of the accelerator, working surfaces of the dielectric blocks (5) facing the discharge channel (4) are first heated. After preliminary heating of the dielectric blocks to operating temperature of the accelerator, voltage from a capacitive storage (6) is applied across the cathode (1) and the anode (2) and electric discharge is periodically ignited between the discharge electrodes by a discharge initiating device (7). The dielectric blocks (5) are moved into the discharge channel (4) as the ablating material evaporates from the working surfaces of the dielectric blocks (5).
EFFECT: high pulling effect of the plasma accelerator.
