FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: method involves continuously feeding a solid fluoropolymer in form of particles into a horizontally aligned cylindrical first reaction zone. The fluoropolymer particles are moved towards the first reaction zone through the continuous rotation, in the first reaction zone, of at least one protruding blade mounted on a central axis. As the fluoropolymer particles move along the reaction zone, they are exposed to high temperature from 400°C to 1000°C, which leads to depolymerisation of the fluoropolymer to form a gaseous phase rich in fluoro compounds. The remaining solid phase is output at the other end of the first reaction zone, like the gaseous phase. The gaseous phase can be passed through a second reaction zone also at high temperature. The gaseous phase is sharply cooled to less than 200°C in 1 s, with extraction of fluoro compounds in form of gaseous products. Depending on the desirable mixture of products, the state of the product can be changed using a next reactor.
EFFECT: disclosed method and apparatus enable to carry out depolymerisation of different fluoropolymers and residues thereof can be successfully used continuously without shutting down the reactor.
