SUBSTANCE: present invention refers to medicine, and aims at treating individuals suffering dry mouth. The presented method of relieving dry mouth involves introducing a composition containing arginine in the free form or in the form of a salt in an oral cavity of a patient in need thereof. Arginine may be presented in the form of bicarbonate arginine. The composition may additionally involve one or more calcium ion sources, phosphate ion sources, potassium ion sources, magnesium ion sources, fluorine ion sources, an aromatiser which stimulates salivation, a polyol humidifier, and their combinations. The composition may represent a tooth paste or a mouth rinse, particularly artificial saliva. The method provides relieving dry mouth, leaving moist and smooth feeling and in the mouth. The method is applicable in the patients with dry mouth, particularly suffering a chewing and/or swallowing difficulty caused by dry mouth, and/or suffering a speech difficulty caused by dry mouth. And also it is applied in the cases when the patient suffers from an opportunistic infection of tongue caused by dry mouth when dry mouth is invoked by a disease or in a case when the patient is treated with a drug preparation with said drug preparation invokes said dry mouth.
