FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to inorganic chemistry and specifically to a method of producing powder of fluorosulphides of rare-earth elements used in laser and infrared equipment. The method of producing phase-homogeneous powder of LnSF (Ln=La-Dy) compounds in a state which allows subsequent pressing thereof without further grinding involves action of 3% hydrofluoric acid solution taken in stoichiometric excess of 0.5-1 mol % on powder of sesquialteral sulphides of rare-earth elements Ln2S3 (Ln=La-Dy) and subsequent treatment of the obtained mixture in an argon atmosphere and sulphidising gases - H2S+CS2 at temperature 700-850°C.
EFFECT: invention ensures fast reaction in the volume of one particle, minimises formation of oxygen-containing impurities and enables to obtain an end product with high characteristics.
