SUBSTANCE: device to record data onto an optical data medium comprises a head and a controller, which controls a head so that it reads at least one structure of information on a disc recorded onto the optical data medium. Each structure of information on the disc contains the first table, containing information of record characteristics, and the second table containing parameters related to the record, corresponding to the information of record characteristics. Information of record characteristics comprises information on the recording speed and information of recording strategy indication. The controller defines characteristics of recording of the specified device, selects the structure of information on the disc, corresponding to the specified defined characteristics of the device, from the specified at least one structure of information on the disc, using information of characteristics of the record, included into the first table of this structure of information on the disc, receives parameters related to the record from the second table of the selected structure of information on the disc and controls the head so that it records data using this record-related parameters.
