FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: method of calibrating a seismograph involves applying the force exciting the body of the seismograph directly to the body through adjusting screws by putting electrostrictive material between the bearings of the adjusting screws and the base. The value of displacement of the body from the base is determined by putting a LCCD line on the body of the seismograph, and a laser on the base, such that the trajectory of the laser beam during vibrations will pass precisely along the LCCD line.
EFFECT: high accuracy of determining the absolute amplitude-frequency characteristic, larger seismograph.
