SUBSTANCE: invention relates to rocketry. Proposed method consists in defining sustainer operation design duration to compute power functional reached by accelerating unit after separation from carrier rocket and to define the difference between preset power functional and its actual magnitude so that required engine operation time is defined. If the difference between computed and design magnitudes is positive, preset sustainer free flight time is decreased and is not changed in case said difference is negative.

EFFECT: decreased power consumption at lack of power.
