SUBSTANCE: method of predicting location, intensity and movement of vortices in an aircraft trail involves: collecting up one or more ground measurements associated with prediction of location, intensity and movement of vortices in the aircraft trail; collecting one or more on-board measurements associated with prediction of location, intensity and movement of vortices in the aircraft trail; and merging the ground and (or) on-board measurements to predict location, intensity and movement of vortices in the aircraft trail. The process of tracing vortices of the aircraft involves directing a tracing means from the aircraft into the vortex flow generated by the aircraft.
