SUBSTANCE: method of estimating position of a mobile station in a wireless network, executed in a mobile station, comprises steps for: initiating a position finding subsystem in response to a triggering event; receiving a measurement position request message containing network accuracy and network response time, wherein the measurement position request message is received after initiation of the position finding subsystem; estimating the position of the mobile station using the position finding subsystem; generating a measurement position reply message in response to the measurement position request message, wherein the reply message contains the position estimate; sending the position measurement reply message.
EFFECT: increase in accuracy without affecting acquisition rate or finite acquisition time when obtaining mobile station position references.
