FIELD: radio engineering, communication.
SUBSTANCE: described are techniques for supporting location services with an improved location service level. In one embodiment, a terminal receives a location service request from an application which is external or internal with respect to the terminal. The terminal exchanges at least one message with a location server to establish an extended location session of a defined duration through an improved location service level. The terminal may then receive a location service from the location server at any time during the defined duration of the extended location session, for example when a location request is received from an application. The terminal or application may emulate a more complex location service based on location information received each time the terminal receives a location service.
EFFECT: efficient reception of a location service from a terminal or location server at any time during a defined duration of an extended location session.
