FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to production of chromium compounds. The method of producing sodium monochromate involves oxidative calcination of a charge mixture consisting of chromite ore, calcined soda and filler, and subsequent leaching of the obtained sinter, filtration of the pulp and washing the sludge. The filler used is magnesite or magnesite-sludge filler.
EFFECT: invention simplifies production of sodium monochromate by reducing fusibility of the charge mixture and content of hexavalent chromium in the waste sludge, avoiding the process of removing calcium compounds from monochromate alkali liquor and formation of calcium carbonate deposits on the surface of the equipment and pipes, as well as high purity of sodium monochromate.
