SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method and equipment for treating black liquor at a pulp mill in order to recover chemicals and energy contained therein. In the invention, the black liquor is pyrolysed in a pyrolysis reactor (4), the formed gaseous components are forwarded for utilisation and the solid particles are mixed with water, whereby the solid particles are returned to a lime burning furnace (1) and the sodium hydroxide-containing liquid is returned to the pulp cooking process.

EFFECT: invention enables in a single conduit of chemicals to recover heat energy and chemicals, utilise the obtained pyrolysis oil and also avoid problems associated with corrosion and contamination which arise when using ordinary boilers to extract soda.
